| What Lies Beyond the Search Technology Wars?
Consumer workflow: Even if it will probably be named something completely different when it hits the market, workflow technology for consumer computer use could turn out to be one of the hottest development areas of the future. Whichever way we look at it, the digital tools now available to a large number of consumers has led to an unbelievable glut of information on the various devices we use to create and access digital information.
The first wave of technologies trying to come to grips with these problems is the wave of search technologies spearheaded by Google for the desktop. But advanced search technology isn't enough. Sooner or later we will need to accept that finding a needle in a haystack does not solve the problem of the haystack.
In other words, technology will need to become much smarter in understanding how we as consumers deal with the different types of information, how it can be enriched, structured and organized without requiring more than a casual effort from the user.
There is a LOT to be invented here…
