| About Digital Technology Assessment (DTA)™ Pfeiffer Consulting created Pfeiffer DTA Labs™ in order to provide high-level, independent technology testing and productivity measures. With the explosive growth experienced by the content creation industry, there is a great need for technology assessment that is relevant for new and complex professional market segments. Pfeiffer DTA Labs™ offers market-specific tests and benchmarks to help professional users and technology managers assess the available technologies. How do we work? Pfeiffer DTA Labs is completely vendor independent. We provide benchmarking for Pfeiffer Consulting’s research publications and consulting projects, and we provide independent benchmarking services to technology providers, software and hardware companies. Methodology Configuration: Prior to conducting benchmarks for a particular sector of technology, Pfeiffer DTA Labs™ works closely with a panel of publishing and technology professionals to establish a reference configuration. Test Procedures: Pfeiffer DTA Labs™ defines a complete set of operations and assignments which are executed in a controlled and documented way. Once tests are completed, results are analyzed and rated in order to provide a clear assessment of performance that is both scientifically accurate and meaningful to professionals in a specific market segment. System Setup: All tests are performed using standard system installation and configuration. All systems are completely re-initialized prior to tests, using the default values for installation. All hard drives are re-formatted using a single partition. All application software is installed from scratch, using default settings. No peripherals are connected to the systems during benchmarks unless required by thebenchmark project. For specific details on system configurations please refer to the individual benchmark reports. Benchmark Basics: All application software is used in its most recent commercially available release. No development versions of software are used unless required by a specific project. All performance benchmarks are conducted in an identical fashion, and are executed several times to insure stabilized, reliable results. Productivity Measures: Productivity measures are always based on a complete, market-segment specific project defined by experts of the field and executed with real-world data sets. Every phase of the benchmark is defined as several sets of clearly defined, repeatable steps. These sets of steps are then executed in a strictly identical way by trained operators from the specific market segement covered in the report. Each set of steps is executed three times in succession. The overall test results are calculated from cumulating the measures obtained for each individual set of step. Note: No scripting or programming is used in the execution of productivity measures. The main aim of productivity benchmarks is to show real-world productivity in a complete, market-specific assignment, and has therefore to take in account actually performing all the operations necessary for the completion of the project. Publication Methodology and Results: For each benchmark project, Pfeiffer Consulting publishes a complete benchmark report, containing detailed, project-specific configuration information and benchmark methodology, as well as complete results from the project.
